Accessibility

This site is built to be usable by everyone, including people who rely on screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification, or reduced motion.

Standard

The goal here is conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA, which is the standard referenced by the Americans with Disabilities Act and by Section 508. That covers color contrast, keyboard access, text alternatives for images, visible focus, and content that adapts to zoom and small screens.

Built in options

The accessibility button in the top right corner of every page opens a small panel where you can:

  • Increase text size in two steps.
  • Switch to a higher contrast color scheme.
  • Underline every link so they do not rely on color alone.
  • Reduce motion, which also turns off the animated cursor effects.
  • Increase letter, word, and line spacing for easier reading.

Your choices are remembered in your browser, and the site also respects the reduced motion setting in your operating system automatically.

Also included

  • A skip to main content link for keyboard users.
  • Headings, landmarks, and labels for screen reader navigation.
  • Text descriptions for images and figures.
  • Layouts that reflow on phones and at high zoom levels.

Known limits

A few pages embed interactive simulations and tools hosted elsewhere. I do not control the accessibility of everything inside those frames, so if one of them blocks you, tell me and I will describe the content or provide the results another way.
